Milton Keynes Advanced Motorists in conjunction with Thames Valley Police ‘Roads Policing’ Department, will be running a ‘Better Riding Course’ during September. The course will commence on Thursday 9th September. There will be 5 weekly evening sessions held from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. On Saturday 9th October there will be an opportunity to have your riding observed by a Police Motorcyclist and receive feedback. MKAM who are affiliated to the Institute of Advanced Motorists have been running similar courses at Milton Keynes since 1991.
The course, 5 ‘classroom’ based session (no test – not too formal!!) is aimed at safer and defensive riding techniques to enable the rider to have a better understanding of the techniques taught by the Police and other emergency services. ‘Roadcraft’ and the current ‘Highway Code’ with slides and video help guide these sessions. Rod Hardie, a retired Police Officer who served for many years as Traffic Police motorcyclist and currently a Senior Observer with MKAM, together with serving officers and also observers from MKAM will help present this and together they bring a wealth of experience to these evenings. We will use various presentations and videos to demonstrate these principles allowing for discussion and views.
On Saturday 9th October there is an opportunity to attend Newport Pagnell Police Station where the course will be based and be accompanied for a ride by a serving Police Officer for an assessment ride.
