I was asked to fit a GPS Bike trac Unit by Road Angel to my bike with the agreement to complete an honest review of this product so here it is:
I never thought of my bike being stolen, mainly because I never let it out of my sight and very particular about it’s security. However, I didn’t realise how many motorcycles were taken everyday in the UK. It’s depressing that more than 100 motorcycles are stolen everyday in the UK and recent statistics illustrate that a staggering 60% of these bikes are never seen again, definitely frustrating to the owners. However, a relatively new innovation by GPS specialist, Road Angel, promises to help combat motorcycle theft and provide added peace of mind for riders, and their families, when they are on or off their bikes.
Bike Trac is a pioneering, Thatcham approved tracking device, which has been designed for the two-wheel industry. The discreet on-board motion detection unit is suitable for all types of bikes and monitors any unusual movements. This clever accessory can detect whether your bike is moving and alerts the rider within a couple of seconds by text & email. An easy to use internet portal is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which enables individuals to check the current location of their motorcycle. Using the online portal, motorcyclists can track journeys from the past three months and view aerial photography, details on mileage, speed and location from those trips for Bike Trac members to share with friends and family.
Additional safety to the device is that it informs riders if the motorcycle has fallen over and enables partners and family members to be alerted to a potential accident when the motorcyclist is out riding. In the event that the motorcycle falls below a specific lean angle, a text message is activated with details of the motorcycle and rider’s location to be passed on to the rescue services, which may save lives.
In September, I flew over to Ireland to visit the family and I thought of my bike’s security on several occasions. However, with the Road Angel Bike trac fitted I had peace of mind that I would be alerted via text message if my bike was to be moved in any way. I have to say, this put my mind at ease knowing that the bike would be there when I get home and if it was taken at any point, I would be able to track it and determine its whereabouts.
Since fitting the Bike Trac device, I also went on a Motorcycling holiday to France and was able to go back look at the routes I had taken; which is an amazing feature being able to look at all the crazy roads I rode and save them for another day.
Following this review, I have had to return the device but I’m hooked and it is now on my Christmas list this year, if Santa’s is nice to me.
