Hello and welcome to the maintenance page of the Safer Rider site.
Firstly let me introduce myself and explain what I will be regularly focusing on.
My name is PC Chris Howlett (AKA Steptoe), I am based at Taplow and work with Derek who writes the On Patrol section of this site.
I joined Thames Valley Police in 2001 after spending 14 years in the motor trade as a qualified vehicle technician for Ford.
My main goal in life was to become a police officer and then to join the Roads Policing Department with a view to getting onto the motorcycle team. I am now pleased to announce my dream has come true and I have been allocated an advanced motorbike course very soon (Bring it on!).
My love affair with bikes has never been stronger (much to the annoyance of Mrs Steptoe) and this passion extends to servicing, repairing and fault finding various machines owned by friends and colleagues.
Each month I will be focusing on easy bike maintenance tasks that can be carried out effortlessly by you. I will explain the different procedures in depth which will leave you with the confidence to tackle various mechanical tasks.
So hopefully regularly reading this page will save you time and money on expensive repair/servicing bills, whilst giving you the confidence in keeping your ‘Pride and Joy’ in a tip-top and safe condition.
Whilst focusing on the various tasks each month, I will be recommending many tools and products that are available on the market that in my opinion are the best for the job at hand.
Right, that’s enough Jibber Jabber for the time being. Enjoy the sunny weather and have fun.
